Shed & Garage Permits in Aldan Borough

Delaware County, Pennsylvania

Everything you need to know about getting a permit for a shed, garage, or other accessory structure in Aldan Borough.

ZIP: 19018✓ Verified September 2026

Permit Requirements

A construction permit is required from the Aldan Borough Building & Zoning Department before a shed or accessory building goes in

Application: "Application for Construction Permit", downloadable from the Borough's Building & Zoning page

Aldan enforces the Pennsylvania Uniform Construction Code (UCC)

Setbacks (confirmed by phone with the Borough office, Sept 8 2026)

At least 10 ft from the house

At least 3 ft from any property line

The office stated the building goes in the REAR of the yard

Side-yard placement — CONFIRM IN WRITING

The Borough office described rear-yard placement. If a customer wants the building alongside the house instead of behind it, get that approved in writing by the codes department BEFORE the order is finalized. Do not assume the 3 ft property-line figure carries over to a side yard.

How to Apply

Email the codes department at [email protected] for the permit packet

Include a plot plan showing the building size and its distance from the house and from every property line

Include the building drawings/specs (we supply these)

Watch For

Most of Aldan's residential streets are zoned R-2. Accessory structures generally have to respect the district's yard requirements.

Aldan Borough shares the 19018 ZIP with Clifton Heights. A "Clifton Heights, PA 19018" mailing address may actually be in Aldan Borough — confirm the municipality before contacting an office.

Starting work without a permit incurs double fees.

Electrical work requires a third-party inspection and separate trade fees.

Honestly? It's usually simpler than it looks

Before you hand this off to anyone, we'd encourage you to just call or stop by the Aldan Borough township office. The folks there handle shed and garage permits all the time — they'll give you the forms and walk you through filling them out. For a standard shed, most townships only need three things from you:

A certificate of insurance. Just ask and we'll email you a copy. It's easier to get than most people expect — see what one looks like.

A drawing / spec sheet of your building. We'll email you a copy of this too.

A site plot plan showing where the building will sit on your property. We prepare this for you as part of the $25 permit review — no extra charge. Ours includes your property lines, measurements, and impervious-coverage figures. All you do is confirm where you want the structure placed, and submit it to your township under your own name. See real examples. You can also do it yourself for free using our blank template.

That's typically the whole list for a standard shed. Give it a shot yourself first — a lot of folks are pleasantly surprised at how quick it is. And if you get stuck or would just rather not deal with it, we're glad to help (see below).
