144 sq ft or less is classified as a "shed"; 145 sq ft or greater is an "accessory building"
Accessory buildings 145–999 sq ft: Zoning Permit Application required
Accessory buildings 1,000 sq ft or larger: Building Permit Application required
Electrical, plumbing or mechanical work requires separate trade permits
Setbacks
Sheds 144 sq ft or less: minimum 7 ft from rear and side property lines
Accessory buildings 145 sq ft and up: must meet the principal building setbacks for your zoning district
Not permitted in a required front yard
Cannot be closer to the street than the principal building
How to Apply
Submit to the Doylestown Township Code & Zoning department, 425 Wells Road
Include a site plan with the structure location, distances to property lines, and easements
An impervious surface worksheet and stormwater compliance may be required

Doylestown TOWNSHIP and Doylestown BOROUGH are separate municipalities with different rules. The Borough office is at 10 Doyle Street. Make sure you are applying to the right one.
