Workshop questions

What buyers ask about the Workshop.

Sizing, door clearance, delivery, permits — the stuff that comes up when folks are deciding on a workshop. If your question isn’t here, give us a call or text.

How is the Workshop different from the Classic Workshop?

Same A-Frame structure with the same tall sidewalls and double-door layout, but the Classic Workshop adds our premium trim package: 1×6 Miratec fascia, 1×3 corner trim, wider gable overhangs, and Classic vents. The Workshop is the right pick for working environments — woodshops, automotive hobbyists, light tradesfolk — where the building is utilitarian and you don’t want to pay for trim. Classic Workshop is the pick if you’re converting to a backyard office, art studio, or guest space.

Why pick the Workshop over a Hi-Wall Barn?

Two big differences: the Workshop has an A-Frame roof (vs. gambrel), and the sidewalls are even taller — roughly 8’8" vs. the Hi-Wall’s 7’8". The A-Frame gives you a clean, unobstructed peak ceiling instead of a loft, which is what most hobbyists actually want when they’re running long-stock through a table saw or hanging shop lights. Pick the Hi-Wall Barn if you want the option of overhead loft storage; pick the Workshop if you want every cubic foot to be working space.

What’s the most popular Workshop size?

12×20 (starting at $5,450 in LP SmartSide) is our top-selling Workshop size — it fits a 4×8 plywood sheet on either side of a center workbench with room to walk around, plus space for a table saw outfeed. Heavy hobbyists go 14×24 ($7,855) for a real two-bay workshop layout: tools on one wall, project staging on the other. Below 10×16 you’re really looking at a glorified storage shed; the Workshop’s value comes from the room to actually work.

Can I run electrical and add a workbench in a Workshop shed?

Yes — this is what most Workshop buyers do post-delivery. We don’t pre-wire the building (every township’s electrical code is different and licensed work needs to be inspected locally), but the tall sidewalls give you full stud bays for an electrician to mount a 60–100 amp subpanel, run conduit along the plates, and install outlets every 4 feet around the perimeter. We can frame in extra outlets for windows, double-doors, or pre-hung exterior doors at order time — just mention your tool list when you request a quote and we’ll spec the door/window placement to match your bench layout.

Is the Workshop delivered fully assembled?

Yes through 12×40 — every Workshop in that range is built fully assembled at our Parkesburg, PA shop and rolled in on a low-profile mule trailer. The 14-wide Workshops (14×16 through 14×48) ship as panelized kits and are assembled on-site over 1–2 days because they exceed legal road-transport width. On-site assembly carries a 30% upcharge by default, which is mentioned in the quote.

Do I need a permit for a Workshop?

For pure hobby/storage use under 200 sq ft (8×24 or smaller), most townships in PA, NJ, DE, and MD don’t require a permit — setbacks still apply. Anything 12×20 and larger usually needs a zoning permit. Critical: if you plan to run a business from the shop (woodworking commissions, cabinet shop, side-trade work) or pull customer cars in for repair, that’s a "home occupation" use and you’ll need both a building permit and a separate occupational permit. Check both before ordering.

Fast Delivery

Ordered a 10×16 Quaker on a Tuesday, delivered the following Monday. Crew was professional and the shed looks better in person than in the photos.

Value

My Classic shed was $2,000 less than a similar model at the big-box store — and it’s built ten times better. LP SmartSide, real 2×4 framing, architectural shingles. No comparison.

Craftsmanship

You can tell this is Amish-built the moment you walk inside. Framing, floor, trim — everything is straight and square. Worth every penny.
